A Dog's Purpose - from a 4 year old

Being a veterinarian, I was called to examine a ten year old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.

I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why." Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Emmie, the pillow.

I can't believe it's been a year. I miss her.

a lonely democrat asks a favor....

....democrats don't be pussies....

(not my favorite term, but I suppose there are many other more important things to get upset about)

Anyway, I found this funny enough to share...

A Lonely Democrat

I like the rain subpoenas part. LOL.

The opinions expressed in the above videoblog are not necessarily the opinions of orange gearle, as far as you know. Or maybe they are??? Hmmmm......

panda porn

Does anyone else find this story funny? Apparently, Lin Hui "is no longer comfortable with having sex" with Chuang Chuang because....he is too fat. Who knew that female pandas were so....particular....about their mates????

I found this quote especially enjoyable:

They have held a mock wedding, announced plans to separate the two to spark a little romance and even talked of introducing panda porn _ videos of other pandas mating _ to get the pair in the mood.

Panda porn??????? Seriously??? PANDA PORN???? Frickin' hilarious!

it's a panther!

While I was on my lunch break today, I checked my Orange Gearle e-mail account. This is the email I received from my daughter:

Woo Hoo!!!

You know we just had to celebrate. First I bought new t-shirts - UNI - pink (cuz that's her favorite color). I gave her the t-shirt when I picked her up from her boyfriend's. The three of us went to Carlos O'Kelly's. On the way Justin says, "What would it spell if you used EACH of the initials in Carlos O'Kelly's?" (COK) How funny is that?

I'm proud of her. I didn't doubt that she would get in, but I think she doubted it. For the last three weeks or so, she has practically run to the mailbox to check and see if her letter came. Yesterday, MLK Day, no mail. I thought she might have a heart attack! :-)

Let's see....my guitar is fixed, Barak Obama is probably running for president, my students were hilarious today, my lesson on using mental images to enhance reading comprehension went well, I found my belt, my dad is this much closer to a new kidney, my daughter got in to college....if it were just warmer, this might be a perfect day.

snow anyone

We're fixin' to get snowed in. Here it is January 14, and we haven't had a lick of snow! Tonight, as our first snowstorm of the season is upon us, Tiernan decided to drive into town before it got bad and is spending the night. If we get very much, I'll surely take pictures and share.

While watching a marathon of Monk on USA, Hollyanne and I scrapbooked for a couple of hours and Tiernan did her homework. Of course, Hollyanne got a few pages done, and I was my extremely anal-retentive self and pretty much only got a title put on a page!!! I did finish a page (I think - I still might find something to put in the upper right corner)! As you can see we are working on our trip to Colorado. This page is the first page in my book. I have several others completed...but Hollyanne is almost finished!!

Apparently this is what teens of this generation do?? I sneaked this picture of the girls while I was cooking supper:

Look closely...Hollyanne has the house phone on her ear (no doubt talking to her boyfriend) and at the same time she is messing around with her cell phone (pink of course). Tiernan also has her cell phone out. At least they aren't talking to each other on the phones while sitting next to each other!
